From 600 chips to 10 chips, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has overcome the technical difficulties

Before 2012, China's PLC optical splitter chips were all imported, and each chip sold for 500 or 600 yuan. Recently, the topic of "more than 20 experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have reduced the chip price to 10 yuan" has injected a "tonic" into China's semiconductor industry.

At present, with the deepening of integration and innovation in 5G, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and industrial fields, the market competition of optoelectronic chips is becoming increasingly fierce.

According to Henan Radio and TV Station, in order to achieve independent, controllable and self-reliant chip technology, Wu Yuanda, a representative of the National People's Congress and researcher of the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and more than 20 experts from the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, overcame a series of technical difficulties and successfully developed a PLC optical splitter chip. Now a chip only costs about 10 yuan, greatly saving the cost of broadband network construction.

It is reported that at present, PLC optical splitter chips and AWG chips have achieved mass production in China, breaking the monopoly of foreign manufacturers. Now the domestic PLC optical splitter chips have been sold abroad, with the largest share in the world!

However, although China's optoelectronic chip technology has made major breakthroughs, the research and development of chips and devices is still a weak link, and there is still a large gap with foreign countries. A considerable part of high-end optoelectronic chips still rely on imports. Wu Yuanda said that in the future, he will focus on the main needs of the next generation of information technology, accelerate the transformation of new product research and development achievements, develop more high-end chips, and achieve independent control and self-reliance of chip technology.
