Brazil launches a $20 million subsidy program to promote the development of the domestic chip indust

According to foreign media reports, as part of the high-tech independent and controllable plan, the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will provide a non refundable subsidy of $20 million to local chip companies.

The "More Innovation - Semiconductor" program aims to stimulate development projects related to semiconductor design, manufacturing, and testing. This is part of the industrial stimulus plan, which has issued 11 subsidy notices for various industries, with a total value of 2.18 billion reais (400 million US dollars).

Currently, Brazil is only a small player in the global semiconductor industry. Although it is the sixth most populous country in the world, with a population of over 212 million and a vast consumer electronics market, its local chip ecosystem is very small. Brazil established state-owned chip manufacturer Ceitec in 2009, and it is expected that the Jair Bolsonaro government will privatize it as part of its nationalization plan. Later, the local government overturned this decision.
