Huawei's rotating chairman speaks out about semiconductor chips!
On September 19, Xu Zhijun, the vice chairman and rotating chairman of Huawei, said at the "Huawei Full Connectivity Conference 2024" that the progressiveness of the chips we can manufacture will be restricted, which is a challenge we must face to build computing solutions.
Xu Zhijun pointed out that based on China, only computing power created based on actual obtainable chip manufacturing processes is sustainable in the long run, otherwise it is unsustainable.
Currently, with the advent of the intelligent era, artificial intelligence is becoming the dominant demand for computing power, prompting structural changes in computing systems. What is needed is system computing power, not just single processor computing power. Xu Zhijun believes that sustainable computing solutions can be provided through architectural innovation.
At present, China has built a complete industrial system around AI. On September 13th, Yang Yajun, Deputy Director of the Information Technology Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that China has initially established a relatively comprehensive artificial intelligence industry system, with over 4500 related enterprises and a core industry scale of nearly 600 billion yuan. The industry chain covers key upstream and downstream links such as chips, algorithms, data, platforms, and applications.
Xu Zhijun further emphasized that our strategic core is to fully seize the opportunities of artificial intelligence transformation, based on the actual available chip manufacturing processes, coordinate innovation in computing, storage, and network technologies, create computing architectures, create "super node+cluster" system computing solutions, and continuously meet computing needs in the long run.
